 Bay Area Summer Music Festival Chamber Music Program

  Another cornerstone of the Bay Area Summer Music Festival is the Chamber Music program. Chamber music is any small instrumental ensemble, usually not conducted, and it enhances the musician's skills of listening and performing their part within the context of the others. The benefits of this carries over to the large ensembles, but that does not diminish the value of chamber music itself.

Members of the festival's Chamber Music program are also involved in at least one large ensemble. The smaller groups allow more opportunity for individual leadership and musical growth. Due to the flexibility of chamber music, the size and types of ensembles will vary from year to year based on enrollment and repertoire.

Examples of chamber music groups:

• Brass Choir
• Saxophone Choir
• Woodwind Quintet (Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, French Horn)
• Brass Quintet (2 Trumpets, French Horn, Trombone, Tuba)
• String Quartet (2 Violins, Viola, Cello)
• Various Trios
