Orchestra
The future of the Bay Area Summer Music Festival will see the launch of another large ensemble for participants to perform in. Under the musical direction of festival Music Director Jeffrey A. Spenner and a guest conductor, the orchestra will play music ranging from string orchestra repertoire to the classics, as well as recently composed works. Pieces on the list of tentative repertoire include:
  • Finlandia - Jean Sibelius
  • Symphony No. 104 "London" - Franz Joseph Haydn
  • Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis - Ralph Vaughn-Williams
  • Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture - Piotr Illych Tchaikovsky
As with the Wind Ensemble, a "side by side" approach will be taken, having Guest Artists perform alongside student participants. String players will have the opportunity to perform chamber music as well.
All sections (strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion) will be on a chair rotation, so all participants have the opportunity to play a variety of parts.
