Orchestra

Unfortunately, the addition of orchestra will have to be delayed. We hope to be able to offer it in 2011, so please keep your eye on this page!
String players, we would love to hear from you in advance for pre-planning.

The future of the Bay Area Summer Music Festival will see the launch of another large ensemble for participants to perform in. The orchestra will play music ranging from string orchestra repertoire to the classics, as well as recently composed works. Pieces on the list of tentative repertoire include:
  • Finlandia - Jean Sibelius
  • Symphony No. 104 "London" - Franz Joseph Haydn
  • Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis - Ralph Vaughn-Williams
  • Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture - Piotr Illych Tchaikovsky
As with the Wind Ensemble, a "side by side" approach will be taken, having Guest Artists perform alongside student participants. String players will have the opportunity to perform chamber music as well.

All sections (strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion) will be on a chair rotation, so all participants have the opportunity to play a variety of parts.
